The Essex FA currently operate three representative teams: Boys Under 18s and Under 16s and open-age Women's. All three sides compete in their respective sections of the East Anglian Counties Championship against counterparts from Suffolk, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire (only Under 16s and 18s) and Norfolk (only Under 18s).

The youth sides are open to players who don't attend FA Academies or Centres of Excellence, while the Women's side is for all players from the FA Women's Premier League to the Essex County Women's League. The Under 18s also compete annually in the national FA County Youth Cup. Essex have won this on three occasions in 1947/48, 1949/50 and, most recently, 2011/12 following an entertaining 4-2 extra time victory over West Riding FA at Colchester United FC's Weston Homes Community Stadium.
