Dave Edwards, who played for Harlow Town FC more than 120 times and then went on to manage the club during the 1980s and '90s, died last Thursday.

Mr Edwards, of Elmbridge, Old Harlow, passed away on Thursday, June 25 aged 69 after a long illness. His family were by his side.

Born in Willesden, Mr Edwards moved to Harlow when he was 14,
he was a tough and uncompromising defender, he played for Harlow Town over 120 times and scored nine goals but it was as a manager that he will best be remembered.

He took charge of the club from 1985 to 1994 and during that time was manager for over 500 games. His legendary status was secured when he stayed at the club after it was dissolved in the 1992-93 season and rebuilt a competitive side from scratch.

He also had spells in charge of Bishop's Stortford, Stansted, Saffron Walden, Ware, Hertford and Bromley.

While at Stansted Football Club he took the club to Wembley & triumphed in the FA Vase final, which was a great achievement.

Mr Edwards leaves a wife, Andrea, two sons and grandchildren.

Everyone at Harlow Town FC would like to pass on their condolences to his family.
