Harlow Town visit Merstham in the FA Trophy 1st Qualifying Round.

The FA Trophy is one of four cup competitions Harlow have taken part in this season, and now the only one that the Hawks are still competing in. Following Tuesday’s 8-0 thrashing away to Concord Rangers in the Essex Senior Cup, a much improved performance will be required to stay in the cup that is seen as the “FA Cup for non-league teams”.

It will be another tough match. Merstham are currently mid-table in the Ryman Premier Division, with 24 points from their 20 league games. They have fallen at the first hurdle in all their cup games so far this season, so they will surely be eager for a cup run.

Three wins and three losses in their last games illustrate their inconsistent form, and although Charlie Penny has been amongst the goals and will be a threat, at the other end they have been on then end of some heavy defeats in the past couple of weeks.

Harlow’s week went from bad to worse, as the FA Cup exit was followed by the Essex Senior Cup embarrassment. However, the only other time this season that the Hawks have lost two in a row they went on win seven and draw one of the next eight games.
