1-2 win for Lady Hawks
Ladies keep on with their winning streak
Sunday 10th September
Hoddesdon Town Ladies 1 Lady Hawks 2
We didn't have to travel too far for our 1st away game of the season as we went to Lowfields, home of Hoddesdon Town Ladies.
A really nice set up except for grass that could have done with a cut and the away dugout being closer to the corner flag than the centre line.
Playing in all Blue, we started brightly playing some neat passing football with good movement and communication but it was Hoddesdon who created better chances hitting us on the break with a speedy CF and with better finishing we could have been 3-0 down, however once we got used to the pitch we started to create some chances and a good move from left back through the team to Chloe Bassett
at Right Midfield ending with a ball across the goal finished with aplomb by Tayla Handscombe 1-0 Harlow.
We started to dictate the pace of the game and Hoddesdon started to drop deeper. We found space to pick our passes, one of these from right back Davina Smith
found Lily Bruno
whose touch gave her the opportunity to strike the ball first time across the keeper to make it 2-0 to Harlow.
Due to a Hoddesdon keeper injury the first half lasted 52 minutes. But we went in winning 2-0 without really getting out of 2nd gear.
A positive half time team talk with some key observations about the match patterns set us up ready to build on the 1st half performance.
However we came out sluggish and Hoddesdon pressed hard working really well as a team albeit a little over zealous in some challenges and communication.
We were working hard to keep to our style of play and there was plenty of movement but something was missing (just one of those things) we still created plenty of chances but just couldn't find a way past the replacement keeper who had made some good saves including a great tip over from a Lucy Sende
It was however Hoddesdon who got the goal. We lost the ball in midfield and defence trying to overplay and a superb strike from the Hoddesdon forward went in off the underside of the ball.
2-1 to Harlow 86 minutes gone...
had to come off due to walking into an elbow and has gone to A & E we all wish her well ?
The match got very feisty and the referee dished out a couple of bookings one for each team.
Harlow composed themselves really well and kept to playing patient passing football and a header from Hannah Clifford
hit the post and a couple of scrambled clearances from Hoddesdon kept the score line 2-1 and after a 55 minute second half?? the referee finally blew the whistle.
It was a great learning curve for the girls dealing with a very combative and vocal team who bely their league status.
However sometimes you have to just win ugly and move on from there, learning as we go.
That's 3 wins out of 3 this season and the games come thick and fast as we welcome Stevenage Borough Reserves to the Arena, Tuesday night KO 19.45 and Bungay Town Ladies again to the arena in the FA Cup on Sunday 17th September KO 14.00.
Today's player of the match was Kaydee King
