A Danny Brown penalty gave the Hawks a deserved draw in there opening pre-season friendly against Tooting & Mitcham United on Saturday. A mixture of trialist's began the game along with new signings Alex Read and Robbie Martin. Daniel Knowles started in goal with Joakim Ehui on the right wing.
In 30+c heat both teams put on an entertaining game, Alex Read opened the scoring for the Hawks after 23 minutes, but Tooting found them selves level and then in front just three minutes later. After 30 minutes Danny Chapman made several changes including James May replacing Daniel Knowles, Donny Barnard, Danny Brown and Darren Williams also came on. But it was young Shane Stamp who equalised for the Hawks from a corner, and was causing Tooting problems down the left wing with his speed and footwork.
As the game moved into the last 30 minutes Chapman brought on a trialist in goal and a shot from 25 yards somehow bounced over his dive to give Tooting the lead for the second time. But fifteen minutes from the end, Chindeu McKenzie was brought down in the penalty box and Danny Brown despatched the penalty to give the hawks a deserved draw. McKenzie then had a chance to win the game but his shot narrowly passed the post.
