Redbridge started the quickest in this Essex Senior Cup match and were denied the opening goal on 7 minutes when Daniel Tenkorang fierce shot hit the post then a shot from Patrick Damali forced a fine save by James May kept to keep Redbridge out. Harlow then settled and started to control the game and it was no surprise when on 20 minutes Alex Read gave the Hawks the lead after some poor Redbridge defending allowed Leon Antoine to divert a cross against the post and the rebound fell nicely to Read to smash home from close in, making it 28 goals in 28 games for the striker. Five minutes later and Read played a ball to Junior Dadson who beat a defender and smashed a shot that was pushed away by David McCartney in the Redbridge goal.
Then McCartney made another great save after Layne Eadie had run down the left flank, cut in and hit a fierce drive which was turned around the post.
The second half started slowly but on 57 minutes Harlow's James Smith received a straight Red card after allegedly going over the top of the ball and catching Jack Carlile. Redbridge now had the advantage of having an extra man but never really worried Hawks goalkeeper James May. Read could of sealed the game on 61 minutes when unmarked in the area but his shot was saved McCartney.
On 79 minutes after Redbridge pressure the Hawks substitute Shane Stamp sent Junior Dadson clear who took it round McCartney but McCartney recovered brilliantly to tip his shot over the bar. Harlow saw out the remaining minutes to earn a Quarter final trip to Conference club Braintree Town.
