An Alex Read strike after just 28 seconds gave Danny Chapman's men the perfect start at the Brentwood Arena on Tuesday night.

The striker found himself in space after a long through ball from Michael Toner found him, Read let it bounce and with the Brentwood goalkeeper Olly Bowles off his line Read hit a dipping half volley over his head and into the back of the net,
That should of given The Hawks the platform to take control of the game, but on 10 minutes George Smith went down in agony clutching his right leg, after an agonising wait, with a stretcher and leg brace being called for Smith was helped off the pitch by chief scout Ryan Jessey and physio Tom Green. The injury seemed to disrupt the Hawks and neither side created many chances for the rest of the first half.
Brentwood came out the second half and took the game to Harlow, and on 58 minutes took of Jason Dobbs for Robbie Reed, and it was Reed who brought Brentwood level tem minutes later, The substitute completed an excellent fast-paced counter attack. Sherwin Stanley created the move, holding the ball up well before short, sharp passes between Alex Akrofi and Sam Bantick who eventually found the onrushing Rees unmarked at the back-post and he passed the ball into the net.
But seven minutes later Harlow were back in front, Shane Stamp sent a superb cross across the face of goal to Jared Small who converted from six yards. This gave the Hawks three points and moved them up to 2nd in the table.

George Smith went to hospital after the game for a scan and was told that it was not a crucial or Medial Ligament damage, and it looks likely to be cartilage damage. He will have to have another scan and looks like he will be out for at least two weeks.

Meanwhile Danny Chapman takes his men to Great Wakering Rovers on Saturday in the first of two bank holiday fixtures, with a home Essex derby against Waltham Abbey on Bank Holiday Monday.
