Harlow remain top and undefeated this season after defeating a Soham Town side 1-0 that were third before kick off. A Penalty from Read won the game.

Harlow were looking to go 8 games unbeaten this season and to maintain their unbeaten start to the season. Soham, who are also going strong, knew that they were in for a tough time so decided to use the formation 3-5-2 to try and stop Harlow playing the attractive football they have become known for this season.

Harlow got the game under the way and could have got the best possible start when a long ball from Layne Eadie fell to Jared Small whose tame effort was comfortably saved by keeper Joe Templeman.

After this lively start, chances were hard to come by for the following 20 minutes as Harlow dominated possession but were struggling to break down Soham as they were defending resiliently.

However Harlow finally got a breakthrough from the penalty spot. A corner was floated in by James Smith and the ball was bouncing around the penalty area and as a Soham player went to block an effort, the ball struck the defender on the hand and the referee awarded the penalty. Alex Read stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way on 21 minutes.

An injury to David Kendall meant that Luke Cuthbert came off the bench to make his debut.
Soham were looking to grab an equaliser before half time to swing the momentum in their direction but Harlow were resilient as Soham missed a few chances coming from, Prada and Andy Palmer. Harlow were able to see out the first half and go into the break with the advantage.

The second half started the complete opposite to how the first half ended as Harlow came out strong to grab a two goal cushion. A delicate lofted pass from Layne Eadie found the run of James Smith whose shot whistled wide of the post.
The second half was run by David Cowley who worked tirelessly off the ball and was creative and energetic on the ball. And his clever trickery nearly resulted in adding to Harlow’s advantage. Cowley ghosted past two Soham defenders and unleashed an effort that looked goal bound but was denied by a great block by Ofori-Gyasi.

And a few moments later Cowley again caused trouble for the Soham defence. He received a pass by Small and he shimmied away from his man and let fly from about 25 yards but his effort clipped the top of the crossbar and out for a goal kick.

But Soham could have equalised late on in the game. A Ryan Sharman effort was well saved and a towering header from Jordan Gent saw his effort go inches wide of the post. But Harlow held on to a crucial 1-0 victory which may be vital despite being early on in the season.
