A comprehensive win over struggling Wroxham secured an 11th win in a row for the Hawks, matching a record set by the 1979 title winning Harlow side.

Junior Dadson scored within 5 minutes, before adding another in the first half to take his tally for the season to 26. Alex Read scored a delightful goal to pile the pressure on Wroxham, before an own goal compounded their misery.

The visitors had been struggling for form going into the match, and they were in for an uphill struggle when Harlow went ahead early on. A good run by Junior Dadson presented a shooting opportunity, and his effort across goal into the corner gave the Hawks the best possible start.

Dadson almost scored a second within three minutes when his goal-bound shot was acrobatically cleared off the line by Wroxham’s Joshua Gray with a diving header.

Junior Dadson was running riot, sprinting on the counter-attack from his own half before shooting just wide. The pacy winger then put a tantalising cross into the box, with Alex Read centimetres away at the back post.

Wroxham had their moments, and with a particularly youthful looking side they were quick on the counter-attack. Jack Guyton found himself in behind the defence, but David Hughes spread himself well to save with his legs.

The Hawks doubled the lead when Piers Wixon played a perfectly timed ball in behind the defence for Alex Read to collect. Read squared the ball from the byline, for Junior Dadson to tap home for his second of the game

Harlow upped the tempo in the second half, and soon after the re-start Piers Wixon played another defence-splitting ball for Joe Benjamin to go through one-on-one. Defender Lewis Sturman recovered well, tracking back to make a last-gasp tackle as Benjamin was about to shoot.

In a rare Wroxham attack, David Hughes was once again called upon to keep his clean sheet intact. A shot from Jamie Forshaw within the area took a heavy deflection, but the Harlow stopper reacted quickly to change direction and save well.

Any hope Wroxham had of a comeback was snuffed out on 61 minutes, as Craig Pope played a long ball from defence to put Alex Read through on goal. The striker had been denied by the Wroxham ‘keeper several times earlier in the game, but made no mistake with this opportunity. Read composed himself before cutting back onto his right foot, to shoot over the keeper and just under the crossbar for a great finish.

Ten minutes later, another blistering run down the right side by Junior Dadson created space to put a low shot into the danger area. Wroxham’s Cain Eagleton slid in along the ground in an attempt to clear the danger, but sent the ball past his own goalkeeper into the net.

Jordan Attree had a chance to salvage a consolation goal for the visitors, but put his effort high and wide. Alex Read meanwhile was denied by two great stops by Wroxham custodian Elliott Pride, but the ‘keeper did well to prevent any further damage.

As the game neared the end, Junior Dadson almost clinched his hat-trick when a mazy run brought him to the edge of the goal area, but he dragged his shot just wide as the match-ball eluded him.

The 11th straight win for Harlow moves them on to 69 points from 32 games, still in second place. With league-leaders Sudbury also winning, the two sides have pulled away from the chasing pack with a small gap.

The Hawks now host Thurrock at the Harlow Arena on Saturday 13th February. A win in that game would see a new record set for consecutive league wins.
