A flurry of second half goals gave the Hawks an impressive win after a dominant performance.

By Luke Henry

The game started with the home side probing early on. Alex Read volleyed over the crossbar with the ball slightly behind him before Mario Noto was inches away from converting an opportunity.

The visitors then came forward and produced a chance of their own. Omar Bugiel won a free kick, and Lloyd Dawes struck a low drive through the wall and straight into the arms of David Hughes in the Harlow net.

Harlow went down the other end immediately and almost opening the scoring. A great block from defender Corey Heath denied Jared Small’s fierce shot, instead falling for the danger man Alex Read, who curled a shot onto the outside of the post from inside the area.

Harlow were now starting to get into second gear after the opening 15 minutes and were on the front foot. Alex Read and Craig Pope were next to test the keeper and it looked only a matter of time before Harlow were going to take one of these chances.

As the half wore on, Harlow were still dominant with all the play in the away side's half. The stalemate didn’t last for long though, as Harlow deservedly took the lead in the 31st minute. A loose ball from the Worthing backline was capitalised upon by Jared Small, sending in a pinpoint cross for Alex Read to volley his 152nd Harlow goal off the underside of the bar.

It had been no more than Harlow deserved during their first half performance, they could’ve had two or three going into the break.

HT: Harlow Town 1-0 Worthing

The second half saw Harlow show the same appetite and pace as they did in the first but nothing to show straight away. A rare foray forward from the visitors saw Harvey Sparks hitting one high, wide and it wasn’t very handsome.

Harlow then had another chance to create some breathing space, but Layne Eadie’s rasping drive went just wide of the right hand post from the edge of the area.

Harlow’s advantage finally doubled with a fantastic goal from the impressive Junior Dadson on 52 minutes. The winger beat his full back all ends up again before this time choosing the go alone and it paid off as he slotted the ball under the arm of the onrushing keeper to give Worthing a mountain to climb.

The scoreline was starting to finally represent the Home side’s dominance as just after the hour it was 3-0, with Jared Small getting on the scoresheet. Junior Dadson this time turned provider, his cross from the left was inch perfect and there was Small at the back post to plant a header into the net.

Worthing hit back on 66 minutes out of nothing. Lloyd Dawes seemed to be too far out to even think about having a shot, with three Harlow defenders marshalling him closely. He took one touch out his feet and with minimal back-lift flashed a shot through the legs of Layne Eadie. It nestled in the bottom corner past the unsighted David Hughes.

Harlow still looked comfortable, however two goal leads in football are always dangerous and the next goal could have been crucial. Unbelievably, with 15 minutes remaining and with only their second meaningful shot of the second half, Worthing cut the deficit to a solitary one.

Good intricate skills from Dawes on the edge of the box found Harvey Sparks, who finished with a left foot strike, with Harlow Town potentially now rueing their host of missed chances.

The two-goal cushion was restored by Layne Eadie who scored an extraordinary half-volley from a full 35 yards out. A clearance from the Worthing backline trickled towards the left boot of Eadie and the venomous drive flew into the top corner, leaving Fagan absolutely no chance. Surely a contender for goal of the season.

Harlow weren't finished there as two minutes later, this crazy second half saw a third goal in four minutes. Junior Dadson bagged his second, a low left foot strike from the edge of the area that, with the aid of a slight deflection, restored Harlow’s three goal lead.

There was still time for the substitutes of Harlow to combine to great effect and put extra gloss on the scoreline, with Bamba Ngamb striking right at the death. Decisive wing play from Khale Da Costa, beating two defenders before delivering a low cross towards the near post, found the feet of Ngamb, who turned, swivelled and stroked into the net.

It capped off a brilliant victory for the Hawks in a pulsating 90 minute encounter, who were excellent right from the word go. The Hawks strong home record continues and the push for the playoffs is now a real possibility.
