An 89th minute goal from Alex Read secured a vital win for Harlow in the bottom of the table clash.

Worthing had twice taken the lead, but were pegged back both times as each side finished the game with ten men.

It was a perfect start for the visitors as Kieron Pamment burst free from the midfield in the second minute and hit a piledriver past the goalkeeper David Hughes who was left standing.

The Hawks almost hit back through Jideofo Maduako who went close with a shot at the near post but it was well saved.

The Hawks deservedly drew level on 15 minutes when Ibrahima Sonko found himself unmarked in the box and headed home Tommie Fagg’s corner.

Harlow were in the ascendancy, and creating the majority of chances. Alex Read tried his luck from 25 yards but couldn’t get enough power behind the shot. Ibrahima Sonko then had another header from a corner, but this time it cleared the bar.

With half an hour played Worthing took the lead again against the run of play. Alex Parsons counter-attacked and his cross was intercepted, but it fell kindly to Reece Myles-Meekums who finished well.

Both sides continued to trade chances. Junior Dadson cut inside a defender, but his shot was straight at the goalkeeper.

At the other end, Kieron Pammant’s curling shot cannoned off the post as the Hawks were let off.

On the stroke of half time Harlow drew level again. Jared Small’s low cross found Fabion Simms in the box, and he picked his spot just inside the post.

HT: Harlow Town 2-2 Worthing

The Hawks came out firing in the second half, and were quick to close down Worthing who seemed content to try and play out from the back.

The Harlow Town pressure paid dividends as they created several chances. Jared Small dragged a shot wide of the post, and then Alex Read had an effort blocked that fell to Tommie Fagg who put the rebound wide.

Syrus Gordon stole the ball from the Worthing defence, but he snatched at the shot and sent it wide.

The game could have turned when the Hawks were reduced to ten men with Jideofo Maduako shown a straight red card for an innocuous looking challenge. The numbers were evened up on 81 minutes however when Worthing’s Ben Pop also harshly saw red for a sliding challenge.

Harlow had been the stronger side in the second period, and into the final ten minutes they pushed for the winner. Jared Small was at the back post to receive Alex Read’s low cross, but somehow Small was unable to turn home from just a couple of yards out with the goal gaping.

Alex Read then went through on goal, but just as he shaped to shoot, a great recovery tackle from Joel Colbran was vital to keep the game level.

The pressure paid off in the 89th minute however when a goalkeeping error from Lucas Cavagnari, who tried to chip the ball over Alex Read, gifted a chance to the striker. Read rifled in off the crossbar from close range to seal the win and move the Hawks further away from the relegation spot.
