Worthing missed the opportunity to climb the Bostik Premier Division league table as they surrendered a two goal lead to draw with strugglers Harlow Town.

With thanks to Worthing FC for the match report

The hosts went ahead in just the eighth minute when Zack Newton was on hand to tap in from close range after Alex Parsons’ shot rebounded off the post.

Midway through the first half Reece Myles-Meekums doubled Worthing’s lead but Matt Foy pulled a goal back for Harlow four minutes before half-time, scoring from close range.

Eight minutes into the second half Foy equalised for the visitors when Alfie Young’s mistake allowed him to steal in and lob Lucas Covolan, and it remained 2-2 until the final whistle.

Worthing boss Adam Hinshelwood had made just one change to the side that narrowly beat Folkestone Invicta last Saturday as Joe Clarke was replaced by debutant Danny Baker.

Newton was the architect as Worthing took an early lead with their first chance of the match, squaring to Parsons whose low strike hit the post, then reacting quickest to tap in on the rebound from close range.

Parsons then struck just over the bar from the edge of the box while Fabion Simms failed to connect with a free-kick when he had a free header in the box at the other end.

Worthing extended their lead in the 27th minute when Darren Budd played Myles-Meekums down the right flank and the on-loan Brighton forward raced towards goal and scooped into the top corner, beyond the reach of David Hughes.

The visitors came close to pulling a goal back in the 37th minute when Simms’ nodded past Covolan, but Harvey Sparks was well positioned to clear off the line, before Covolan saved low from Foy.

Harlow pulled a goal back four minutes before half-time when Syrus Gordon’s low shot was cleared off the line by Barker, but Foy turned in on the rebound to make it 2-1.

Eight minutes into the second half the Hawks equalised when Young misjudged his header back to Covolan and Foy stole in to lob the Worthing goalkeeper who was off his line.

Foy was involved again on the hour mark when he went clear through and Young pulled him back, conceding a free-kick that Christian Scales curled over the bar.

Hinshelwood made a brave triple substitution in the 73rd minute when Keiron Pamment, Joe Clarke and Jazz Rance replaced Budd, Young and Sam Rents.

The change improved Worthing defensively but did little to affect their lack of attacking threat during the second half as chances were limited and the sides shared the spoils
