Alex Read opened the scoring on 18 minutes from the penalty spot, this was after Read was put through one on one with the Baldock goalkeeper Nick Stillwell, only for Stillwell to clatter into Read and give Harlow a penalty, but the goalkeeper also saw a Red card from Referee Mr Wardell. Read dispatched the penalty into the opposite corner of the young substitute goalkeeper.
Although The Hawks had the extra man for the remainder of the game they never really looked in command. Both sides never worked either goalkeeper enough, but with 10 minutes remaining in the match, Baldock had their best chance when a handling error by Tristan Hickman on his debut let in Baldock striker Mason Aulsbery who had the goal at his mercy only to shoot wide of the far post, when he should of levelled the match. But this miss and the Hawks fitness levels showing they managed to seal the win with two late strikes, on 85 minutes substitute Chinedu Mckenzie scored the second after Alex Read had his shot saved and the rebound fell kindly to McKenzie who finished well. Then on 89 minutes The Hawks produced the move of the match with Read and Fabon Simms linking up in the penalty area with Smms finishing of a neat lay off be Read.
The Hawks now travel to Grays Athletic in the First Qualifying Round on Saturday 13th September, meaning that the away trip to Heybridge Swifts in the league will be rearranged.
