A comedy of errors once again cost the Hawks as we travelled to Wormley Rovers in a local derby. A lack of urgency until it was too late summed-up the performance, and a number of performances this season.
Our best spell of the game came right at the beginning as Dwade James missed with a header from a corner; Stef Georgiou then hit the post after Jesse Ansen crossed it towards him and Dwade James missed again with another header.
Wormley wasted no time in going down the other end and finding the net in one of their first attacks of the game. Poor defending meant that we failed to shut down Mosanya, giving him time and space to shoot, and his shot looped over James Pellin and into the back of the net. Very little had actually happened in the game to that point.
Stef Georgiou tried to make things happen in the second half, running at a few players before shooting at the near-post, but Hammond was able to make a good save. Soon after, Georgiou did something similar but instead struck it into the side-netting.
At this stage in the game, it was still very much open and it felt as though the Hawks could still get back into the match, but this became very difficult after Jesse Ansen held onto the foot of Darcheville. Already on a yellow card, the referee brandished a second yellow and sent off Ansen.
Things then went from bad to worse for the Hawks after Georgiou was also shown a second yellow after displaying his frustration at not being given a free kick.
To top off what had become a bit of a horror show, James Pellin slipped over when receiving a pass, giving Matt Walsh the opportunity to tap it home, doubling the Wormley lead and sealing the victory for the home side.
Overall, it was a disappointing result and we must bounce back from it on Saturday, we hope to see you there.
