Hawks Hold Off Immense Pressure To Take Point

Hawks Hold Off Immense Pressure To Take Point

Logan Young29 Oct - 13:23

Full Time: Haringey Borough 1-1 Harlow Town

After what was a period in time in which the Hawks were bombarded with fixtures for a good few months, the reds were given a break from action for 10 days following our 2-1 victory at home to Potton United.

The returning game was a travel to Haringey Borough’s Coles Park Stadium, a ground we last played at on boxing day last year in what was a bit of a snoozefest as the Hawks drew 0-0 with former tenants NW London.

Haringey came into this game in good spirits, having won all five of their home league games so far this season but that would soon change against Danny Chapman’s side.

Alex Nicolaides almost caused problems for Harlow early in the game as he forced a diving save out of James Pellin.

Harlow, not messing about, got it down the other end quickly. Denzel Effah saw his shot blocked but it landed nicely for Stef Georgiou who whacked it into the bottom-left corner in similar fashion to one of his goals against Dunstable Town a few weeks ago. The Hawks had an early lead.

The Hawks had the momentum for a moment and Denzel Effah came agonisingly close to doubling the advantage, smashing his shot high and wide.

Haringey then proceeded to bombard the Harlow defence, missing chance after chance and James Pellin making a couple of solid saves but at the break, the Hawks were on top.

Haringey came close to equalising early in the second half from a corner kick in which they practically threw everyone into the box, but James Pellin did well to grab hold of it in a crowd of bodies.

The home side missed another few decent chances before Harlow came close with Ishaq Ameen robbing Sambu of possession in a dangerous area before squaring it to Stef Georgiou who side-footed it at Barnes.

Barnes did excellently well to prevent Ishaq Ameen after he was found soon after by Denzel Effah. The ex-professional goalkeeper made the save with his feet.

James Pellin made 3 really good saves from various Haringey attacks before late on in the game they finally found the net. It was the centre-back Sambu who got his head on it from a corner kick in which they crowded the box. To that point, James Pellin and the Harlow defence had dealt with the set pieces really well but this time they were unable to.

In the last attack of the game, Denzel Effah found himself in on goal and tried to chip Dillon Barnes. His effort landed just wide of the goal but controversy struck when Barnes took Effah out in the penalty area and no penalty was awarded. The away fans were frustrated at the decision.

Overall, it was a game in which the Hawks fought strong throughout and earned a point through good defending and a great performance from James Pellin. Haringey deserved something from the game as they were mostly dominant and therefore a point is a reasonably fair result.

We thank you for your continued support and hope to see you this Saturday as we make the journey to Baldock Town (playing at Arlesey Town FC) in the league.
