Hawks Set For FA Cup Replay With Woodford Town

Hawks Set For FA Cup Replay With Woodford Town

Logan Young18 Aug - 09:49

Full Time: Harlow Town 1-1 Woodford Town

Shane Baptiste’s side travelled to the Harlow Arena for the Preliminary Round FA Cup tie against the Hawks. The blues came into the game having beaten Colney Heath in the Extra Preliminary Round, with the Hawks having beaten Saffron Walden 2-1 in our FA Cup replay here.

A reasonably quiet game ended with neither side being separated on Saturday, after late drama was the highlight of the 90 minutes. As a result, an FA Cup replay has been scheduled for Wednesday evening at Ashton Stadium.

I was not personally in attendance for this game so cannot give a detailed insight on the entire game, but it was notable that Gavin Cockman returned to the team after a long time out. As well as this, Harvey Steel and Joe Dearman returned to the Harlow team as the full-backs following some time out due to muscle strains.

The game was a level one all the way into added time when a penalty was awarded to Harlow Town, which was dispatched by Joe Dearman on his return.

It looked as though Harlow were going to progress into the next round, but in a rapid shift in proceedings, Woodford went down the other end and Teddy Jones handled it in the penalty area. Jones was sent off for Harlow, and Woodford were awarded a penalty, which they put away, levelling the game in the 98th minute.

The statistics for the game would indicate that it was likely a fair result, with Harlow just about edging it in terms of chance creation and Woodford offering little going forward, but there was an over-arching lack of clear-cut chances within the game. Woodford Town scored their only shot on target in the game, with Harlow registering three. Both sets of coaching staff will want to improve on this on Wednesday, with a spot in the FA Cup First Qualifying Round on the line.

We thank you for your continued support and hope to see you on Wednesday night away against Woodford Town in the FA Cup replay.
