Simms Heads Hawks To Derby Victory

Simms Heads Hawks To Derby Victory

Logan Young24 Nov - 11:29

Full Time: Harlow Town 1-0 Wormley Rovers

The unbeaten run continues for the Hawks as we faced Wormley Rovers on Saturday afternoon. Danny Chapman’s side made it 6 wins from 7 and got our first ever win over Wormley, getting revenge after our defeat earlier in the season.

It was by no means an easy game for the Hawks in what was Danny Chapman’s first game back after a 2 match suspension with just one goal separating the sides. Whilst the reds were dominant, it took a while for us to find the net and at times it looked like the game could have gone either way.

Harlow started the game on the front foot, with Josh Gruby heading just wide after a Raheem Gray cross found him in the middle.

Down the other end, Ryan Stevenson decided to have a crack from the edge of the box which looked to be dipping but landed on the roof of the net.

Caiden Remy-Dee went on to miss a golden opportunity for Wormley after the ball was squared across to him from Kaidyn Michael. The Wormley striker was mere yards from goal but curled it high and wide of the post.

Ishaq Ameen came close to scoring for the Hawks when Denzel Effah played a ball into the middle but it bobbled right in front of him and looped over the keeper Ryan Hammond, almost finding the net but bouncing just wide.

In the second half, Ryan Hammond was under pressure after Teddy Jones whipped in a dangerous ball but he managed to tip it away.

Harlow’s goal finally came after Teddy Jones whipped in a cross which was poorly dealt with by Wormley and Fabion Simms headed past Hammond to give the Hawks the lead. Fabion had scored in two consecutive games and the goal went on to be a very important one to secure victory for the Hawks.

Dwade James, fresh off the bench, managed to find a half-chance to have a strike at goal from the edge of the box but Hammond was equal to it, diving down and catching it.

It really should have been 2-0 to the Hawks after Denzel Effah whipped a corner to the back-post for Louis Stead, who headed it goalwards but it was blocked off the line for Wormley, marking the final opportunity of the game as the Hawks closed in on a 1-0 victory.

Overall, the Hawks showed great grit to come away with victory against a tough side, extending our good run of form ahead of a huge clash this weekend with Biggleswade United away. We hope to see you there.
