On Tuesday 11th June 2019 pupils from William Martin and St James took part in the 1st Vine Academy Trust Sports Day at Harlow Town Football Club.

Special thanks goes to Harlow Town Football club for allowing us to host the event
- Claire Kearney, Deputy Headteacher, William Martin

The day gave pupils the chance to sample different sports (football, netball, rugby, cricket, athletics and yoga) at the stadium with many parents spectating from the stands or around the edge of the vast AstroTurf pitch.

This day was successful into promoting healthy lifestyles; broadening the pupils’ experiences of different sports; allowing pupils to work with pupils from other schools and encouraged them to consider attending sports clubs outside of school.

Special thanks goes to Harlow Town Football club for allowing us to host the event; Crosskeys Netball club, Harlow Athletics club and Harlow Rugby Club for providing coaches to run activities; St James school community for being involved; all members of William Martin School community including Jacquie Toon who ran the yoga sessions, Glenn Roberts who ran the football sessions and year 6 sports captains and finally Passmores Sports staff and sports leaders who supported us during the whole event.

All pupils received a participation certificate
Some pupils were selected to receive a special recognition certificate for showing enthusiasm and interest in the different sports.

The day was a great success and pupils reported enjoying seeing their friends having fun, meeting new people and trying out new sports. We hope this is the first of many events bringing the local community together, promoting sport for young people and providing our pupils with experiences to live life in all its fullness.

Mrs Claire Kearney
Deputy Headteacher
