Harlow were held by AFC Sudbury 0-0 at the Harlow Arena and was the first time this season Harlow failed to score.

Harlow came into the game off the back of a vital 2-1 away victory at Wroxham and were keen to carry on their unbeaten start to the season against a very strong Sudbury side who started this afternoon in seventh place.

Unlike the weather, the game started brightly, and Harlow had the first chance of the game as an Alex Read cross was cleared out to only ex Sudbury player, David Cowley whose sweetly struck volley just went over.

Sudbury went close minutes later when a corner came floating in and Baker headed just wide.

Harlow should have equalised through Robbie Martin. A nice Harlow move led to David Cowley teeing up Robbie Martin but his shot went wide of the post when he should have buried his chance.

Kris Newby had a curling effort from 20 yards whistle by the post following a nice flowing move from Sudbury.

Since the Robbie Martin chance, Harlow have only had long range shots that would unlikely trouble the keeper, with in form striker Read not being provided any sort of chances.

A good one-two with Luke Cuthbert gave Eadie the opportunity to go forward and he let fly from 20 yards but the keeper was comfortably able to save.

Seconds later Newby nearly got the opening goal of the game. Coley done well to Beat Toner and his cross found Newby with a bit of space but he fired over.

Harlow were the much better side for the opening 20 minutes of the second half, yet the dominant amount of possession and the high tempo football hadn’t been enough to test the keeper, it didn’t help that Sudbury were slowing down Harlow’s play conceding free kicks.

Harlow had a glorious chance to get a decisive goal. Brilliant play from Read to hold off his man and tee up Cuthbert to surely score but his effort went wide.

A moment of brilliance from Harlow captain Smith, who swivelled away from his man and he let fly from 30 yards but his shot was just over.

It was clear to see from the start of the second half that Sudbury were going to sit back and invite on pressure from Harlow and settle for the point.

But Sudbury nearly got a late winner. Substitute Davidson sprinted clear of Urquhart and Toner and his shot beat Thompson but the on rushing Eadie saved the day and cleared off the line.
