Enfield Town outclassed local rivals Harlow Town to end the Hawks’ three match unbeaten spell.

The hosts went into an early lead with a well-taken finish, before Tom Hitchcock drew the Hawks level with just over half an hour on the clock.

Enfield Town were in control from there on in and re-took the lead via a Billy Bricknell penalty just before the break.

Bricknell hit a second before Marc Weatherstone, making his debut after signing from Wingate and Finchley, sealed an impressive performance by adding a fourth.

Harlow Town started on the front foot and had a strong shout for a penalty turned down in just the third minute. Christian Scales was put through on goal and tipped the ball past Enfield stopper Joe Wright who was quick off his line. Scales was brought down, but the referee awarded a corner instead of a spot kick.

Enfield Town didn’t take long to get into their stride, and when Aaron Green found space on the edge of the area, he rifled a low shot into the bottom corner.

The Hawks pressed forward to get back into the game, and it paid dividends when Yannick Kissi stole the ball from a defender to set-up a counter attack. He passed out wide to Christian Scales, whose low cross found Tom Hitchcock in the middle. He picked out a spot to finish well and draw level.

Enfield Town should have gone back into the lead almost immediately. A cross found Muhammadu Faal in acres of space in front of goal, but with the goal at his mercy he headed straight at Josh Bexon who gratefully held onto the ball. It was a great chance squandered.

Harlow Town goal scorer Tom Hitchcock almost returned the favour of the assist to Christian Scales when he played a through-ball behind the defence, but Enfield defender Sam Hatton recovered with a well-timed sliding challenge to intercept before Scales could get a shot away.

If the Hawks were hoping to get into the break with the scores level, the plan unravelled two minutes before the interval. Paul Rodgers was penalised for a push in the box on Faal and the hosts were awarded with the penalty. Billy Bricknell made no mistake, converting into the bottom right hand corner.

HALF-TIME: Enfield Town 2-1 Harlow Town

Hawks boss Danny Chapman rang the changes at half-time, with Reece Hackney, Matt Foy and Nathan Koranteng replacing Louis Yuill, Yannick Kissi and Tobi Adaje respectively.

The change of system didn’t improve the visitors’ fortunes, however, as they struggled to break down the home defence and create significant opportunities at goal.

An Enfield Town short corner was the undoing for the next goal. Mickey Parcell received the ball and jinked through the Harlow defence. His initial shot was well saved by Josh Bexon, but he could only parry into the path of Billy Bricknell who followed up the rebound for his second of the game.

Tom Hitchcock went close to reducing the deficit for the Hawks with a free kick from 25 yards, but Joe Wright got across well to collect.

In the 77th minute new signing Marc Weatherstone turned in from close range to complete the scoring, finishing off a comprehensive and well-deserved victory for the hosts.
