Harlow Town continued their good start to the league campaign with a closely contested draw against league-leaders Tooting & Mitcham United.

A goal apiece either side of half-time was enough share the spoils, as Tooting & Mitcham’s 100% start to the season was halted.

The visitors went ahead through Razzaq Coleman on the stroke of half-time, but Tayo Oyebola equalised minutes after the restart

The Hawks got off to the better start and were on top for the majority of the first half. Oyebola went through on goal after the visitors lost possession in their own half, but he dragged his effort wide of goal.

Harlow then had a claim for a penalty when the ball struck a Tooting & Mitcham defender on the arm, but the referee rightly waved away the protests as an accidental hand ball.

Danny Bassett saw the first sight of the Harlow goal with a quarter of an hour played when he let fly from the edge of the area, but Miles Mitchell-Nelson charged down the effort in what was a man-of-the-match performance for the young Harlow defender.

De’juane Taylor-Crossdale, who struck twice for the Hawks in his last outing, almost added to his tally after he found himself inside the box after a mazy run. Despite the tight angle he was able to get a shot on target, but James Shaw got two hands behind it to palm the strike over the bar.

Tooting & Mitcham had their best chance to score two minutes before the half-time whistle, when Dean Hamlin found himself unmarked at a corner. He glanced the effort wide of the post when in front of goal, and he really should have done better.

The visitors went ahead in the last minute of first half added time. A long ball forward was well-controlled by Razzaq Coleman, and he turned the defender neatly before firing low into the far corner.

HALF-TIME: Harlow Town 0 - 1 Tooting & Mitcham

Harlow came out firing after the break, and instantly levelled. A free kick was headed against the post by Samson Doherty, and Shaw failed to collect the rebound. The ball was fumbled into the path of Tayo Oyebola, who made no mistake in smashing into the net from close range.

Tooting & Mitcham reacted strongly and were on the front foot for most of the second period. Coleman was a thorn in the side of the Harlow defence, and he created his own chance with a good run into the box, but he was unable to get the effort on target.

Harlow were creating chances of their own still, and when Sam Evans low cross from the byline ricocheted off a couple of defenders, the ball almost ended up in the net as an own goal.

At the other end, Dominic Morgan-Griffiths combined well with Dontai Stewart, but the when the former received the ball back, he put the shot just wide of the post.

Time was running out for both sides to find a winning goal, and both sides squandered good chances in the final minutes.

Terrel Egbri put a delightful cross into the middle for Tayo Oyebola, but the Harlow striker was left holding his head in his hands as he headed over the bar at the back post.

Danny Bassett then had a final chance for the visitors when a corner fell to him 12 yards out, but Josh Bexon’s fine diving save ensured that the scores stayed level until the final whistle, a fair result for both sides.

FULL-TIME: Harlow Town 1 - 1 Tooting & Mitcham
