Harlow Town came away with 3 points after a 1-0 victory at Mill Field on Saturday. On a windy day and on an uneven bobbly surface this game was not for the purists, Aveley started the better of the teams and on 7 minutes Kyle Asante found himself in on goal but could only fire his shot straight at Daniel Knowles in the Hawks goal. On 10 minutes good link up play between Shane Stamp and Layne Eadie down the left saw an Eadie cross meet by the head of Alex Read only to see if flash across the face of goal, Junior Dadson then found Leon Antoine in the penalty box, but his powerful shot was kept out by goalkeeper Kalim Artakiev. Dadson had a chance a couple of minutes later only to see Artakiev deny him with smart save. On 26 minutes Stamp released Eadie again down the left, Eadie cut inside but could not keep his shot down as it cleared the bar. The rest of the half went by with neither side creating much and finding it difficult to put too many passes together.
The second half started with The Hawks on top and on 49 minutes Leon Antoine was brought down 25 yards out in a central area, Alex read stepped up and curled a fantastic shot around the wall and into the back of the net leaving Artakiev motionless. This goal equalling the clubs post war scoring record held by Jeff Wood since 1988/89, coincidently the year Alex Read was born (May 1988). There was very little of any further goal attempts and Read's strike was the difference between the two clubs.
